Terence E. McIff, PhD, MBA
Associate Professor, Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine
Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Kansas
Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Missouri Kansas City
Professional Background
I serve as Director of the Orthopedic Research and Education Center within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. I am also responsible for the organization and execution of the ABOS 1st yr resident training program in our department. In this capacity, I work first hand with the residents developing and carrying out skill training activities. I have taken part in every training module and learned what works, what falls short, and often get insight into why. I have experienced the frustrations and successes of putting together and orchestrating such a broad comprehensive teaching program. As an engineer, I am personally skilled at designing testing platforms and assessing human response. I have a very strong interest in seeing resident skills education develop into a stable, efficient, and validated teaching program that can fill some of the gaps in our resident’s education.

Research
Overview
I have been involved in orthopedic related research for over 20 years beginning with my training at the AO Research Institute in Davos, Switzerland, where I completed the research for my doctorate degree. I currently have both research and teaching responsibilities at KUMC. As a teacher, I am responsible for formal orthopedic bioengineering course work, as well as the mentoring of a variety of medical and bioengineering graduate students, orthopedic surgery residents, and physical therapy graduate students. As a researcher, I am involved in a very wide variety of research lines including professional sport biomechanics assessment and training.
