Tristan Coker, MSN, RN

Professional Background

Tristan Coker, MSN, RN is an Applied Practice Faculty member and Clinical Instructor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. In this role, Tristan facilitates clinical and skills-based learning experiences for prelicensure nursing students while fostering critical thinking, clinical judgment, and confidence in future generations of nurses. Prior to joining the faculty full-time, Tristan served as an Adjunct Faculty member in the simulation and clinical skills laboratory at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, where hands-on simulation and skills-based learning experiences were utilized to prepare students for clinical practice.

As a registered nurse, Tristan has extensive experience in women’s health across both inpatient and ambulatory care settings. Tristan began her nursing career caring for postpartum mothers and newborns before transitioning to ambulatory obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Kansas Health System. In addition to providing direct patient care, Tristan has served as a clinical preceptor for new graduate nurses, nursing students, and medical assistants, while also supporting nurse residency education and staff development initiatives.

Tristan earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in nursing with a focus in nurse education from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. Professional interests include active learning, simulation education, competency-based education, and integration of innovative teaching strategies and technology into nursing and patient education. Tristan is passionate about preparing and mentoring the next generation of nurses by creating engaging learning environments that promote clinical excellence, lifelong learning, and compassionate, evidence-based patient care.
