Professional Background

Dr. Yang received his medical education and practiced as a Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon in China before pursuing graduate and research training at University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, Canada, and Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA. He was a William Robinson Postdoctoral Fellow of Arthritis Foundation, USA, followed by serving as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine (2002-2008) and Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Wayne State University College of Engineering (2003-2008). Since June 2008, Dr. Yang has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences, Wichita State University, and a Senior Research Scientist at Orthopedic Research Institute, Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, Dr. Yang also assumed the position of Director of Biocompatibility Core at the National Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopaedic Research from 2010 to complement his other duties. Dr. Yang joins University of Kansas Medical School faculty since 2013 as a Research Associate Professor and later a Research Professor at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. His research interests and expertise include therapeutic interventions such as gene therapy or nanotechnology for orthopedic disorders, orthopedic material biocompatibilities, and tissue engineering.
