Professional Background
Dr. Stephen Waller is an Associate Professor of Medicine. He currently serves as the Associate Director of Clinical Operations for the Division of Infectious Diseases. He has been at the University of Kansas Medical Center since 2004.
Dr. Waller received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He began his Internal Medicine Residency training at the University of Missouri and completed his training at the University of Iowa. He then returned to the University of Missouri to complete his Infectious Diseases Fellowship training.
Dr. Waller’s clinical focus is transplant infectious diseases and complex pulmonary infections, including non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections.

Research
Overview
Aside from participation in clinical trials, Dr. Waller’s primary research efforts have focused on medical device development. His medical device research has involved collaborators on the KU-Lawrence campus from the Departments of Mechanical, Chemical, and Electrical Engineering as well as the Bioengineering program. Many of these device projects have led to collaboration with others on the KUMC campus, including individuals from the Department of Radiology, Division of Hepatology and Transplant Surgery.
