Professional Background

My expertise and clinical interest are in esophageal and foregut disorders including esophageal motility disorders (e.g., achalasia), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett's esophagus (BE), eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and other esophageal/swallowing disorders. Additionally, I perform advanced foregut procedures including peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia, gastric POEM (G-POEM) for gastroparesis, transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) for reflux, and ablation of Barrett's esophagus.

Research

Overview

The main focus of my clinical research is in esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia and esophageal spasm, physiologic motility testing including esophageal manometry, functional lumen imaging probe (EndoFLIP), Barrett's esophagus and reflux testing. My current ongoing research is to understand the underlying potential mechanism for achalasia development post COVID-19, outcome of consecutive hiatal hernia repair with TIF (cTIF) and impact of cancer history on progression of Barrett's esophagus.
