How to Apply
The following items are required when applying to the On Campus BSN program.
- KU Application: Apply online and select "Nursing (BSN)" on the program choice screen with a subplan of "BSN General Program."
- Payment: $75 non-refundable application fee
- This fee will be honored for the entire academic year.
- An academic year is considered August – July.
- Spring applicants who wish to apply for the following Fall must pay the $75 application fee as it is considered the next academic year.
- If your Fall application is denied or waitlisted, you will not be required to pay the $75 fee again if you choose to apply for admission to the Spring semester.
- To request a fee waiver, please contact the School of Nursing Office of Student Affairs before submitting your Spring application at soninfo@kumc.edu. This is not an automatic process.
- This fee will be honored for the entire academic year.
- Provide official transcript(s) of all college coursework
- An application will not be considered complete until all official transcripts are received.
- An official transcript:
- Cannot be accessed or opened by the applicant,
- Must be sent directly to the School of Nursing from either the institution or a transcript sending agency like Parchment or Clearinghouse,
- Can be sent electronically or through the mail, but electronic is usually the fastest option.
- When ordering an official transcript, select “Send to Other Institution/Destination” or “Institution Not Listed” and enter this email, which sends the transcript directly to the School of Nursing: SONtranscripts@kumc.edu.
- We discourage selecting the University of Kansas as these transcripts will be received on the Lawrence campus and may delay processing of your application.
- If the institution only provides hard copy transcripts, please have them mailed to this address:
Attn: Admissions
University of Kansas School of Nursing
Mail Stop 2029
3901 Rainbow Blvd.
Kansas City, KS 66160 - Hard copy transcripts may take 7-10 business days to process.
- KU-Lawrence applicants:
- You will be required to send official transcripts from coursework taken at other institutions which are not listed on the KU transcript.
- You must list the University of Kansas on your application as one of their your institutions, but you do not need to send their your official transcript. The School of Nursing will upload it for you.
- Review Transcript Evaluation
- All applicants will be emailed an evaluation of their prerequisite courses via email within 6-8 weeks of the completed application. The transcript evaluation is the time for the applicant to review enrollment and make sure they are aware of any remaining prerequisite courses needed.
- The transcript evaluation will include:
- List of all institutions who have sent official transcripts
- List of prerequisite courses with highlights of courses left to complete
- Calculated cumulative grade point average
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 is needed at the time of evaluation to continue with review. Applicants below this minimum will be removed from consideration and notified by email.
- Complete Enrollment Plans Survey
-
- All applicants must complete an enrollment plans survey and attach an unofficial copy of that semester's final grades (Fall semester for Fall cohort applications and Spring semester for Spring cohort applications.)
- Applicants will be emailed instructions and the survey link during the application process.
- The completed survey must be received by the final application deadline. Instructions and additional information are included in the email.

Active-duty military personnel
If you are planning to apply to the KU BSN program through a military program (e.g. AECP, MECP or NECP), please email Cyndie Majher at cmajher@kumc.edu for inquiries about the process.
Background Check
For KU programs to maintain accreditation status, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requires that all persons, employees, volunteers and students involved in patient care activities have background checks. This status is very important to health care organizations to demonstrate to patients and professionals that they meet the highest standards for patient care.
This background check will be done at the applicant's expense after provisional acceptance has been granted. The information from this report is held in confidence by the school. Learn more about background checks for students.
