Welcome to the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Our department is committed to training compassionate, skilled family physicians who are prepared to care for individuals and families across Kansas, especially in rural and underserved communities.

During the eight-week family medicine clerkship, we strive to give all third-year medical students on the Wichita campus a glimpse of the joys of practicing family medicine, forming deep and meaningful relationships with patients of all ages, and connecting with a community throughout a career. Through our residency programs at Smoky Hill-Salina, Wesley Medical Center and Ascension Via Christi, we provide hands-on training rooted in community care, service and excellence in patient-centered medicine. More than half of our residency program graduates continue to practice in Kansas and have been critical components of the healthcare infrastructure of our state.

We are proud to help shape the future of family medicine while improving the health of Kansas communities for generations to come.
