Resident Wellness
We are lucky to have a small program which allows for a close-knit group of residents and attendings! We have a wide range of personalities and interests so learning something new or sharing in common interests is easy to do.
Our program considers resident wellness from multiple perspectives and has various systems built in to ensure residents feel empowered and supported. We highly value the happiness and well-being of our residents, inspiring our approach to wellness to include both relaxed social programming outside of work along with a more formal wellness curriculum, led by our wellness coach, Dr. Kicha. Topics covered include burnout, well-being, work-life balance, and financial wellness and security.
The residents and attendings also face off annually in a friendly competition for the “Wellness Cup.” Each quarter a challenge is made, and the teams meet up to duke it out. The winner at the end of the year gets to take home the Wellness cup and lord it over the heads of the losing team for the next year! Prior years events have included pickleball, bowling, jeopardy, an escape room, Top Golf, arcade gaming and basketball.
Other wellness events include an annual welcome party for our incoming residents, BBQ and pool parties hosted by our generous attendings, scheduled “wellness days” with free time from noon-1 p.m., occasional surprise departmental lunches instead of noon conference, multiple departmental holiday parties and resident dinners at local pubs/restaurants.
We also have opportunities for our residents to share in their passion for radiology and give back to other lifelong learners by partnering with the Radiology Interest Group at KU School of Medicine-Wichita to offer one-on-one mentorship for medical students who have an expressed interest in radiology.
