Professional Background

Dr. Shilo Anders is the Director of Applied Research and Assessment at the Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning (ZIEL) and Research Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. Anders earned her PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University and completed a National Library of Medicine postdoctoral fellowship in biomedical informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Before joining KUMC, she spent over a decade at Vanderbilt University, where she held joint appointments in Anesthesiology, Biomedical Informatics, and Computer Science, and served as Associate Director of Human Centered Design in the Center for Research and Innovation in Systems Safety (CRISS).

Research

Overview

Dr. Anders research applies human factors engineering and health services research (specifically implementation science) to improve healthcare delivery, with particular focus on the relationship between clinicians, patients, and their technological environments. Their research focuses on human-centered design for health information technology, patient safety improvement through team-based approaches, and clinical decision support systems. Dr. Anders interdisciplinary approach brings together expertise in cognitive systems engineering, user-centered design, implementation science, and health informatics to create safer, more effective healthcare systems.
