Professional Background

Dr. Philip Dooley is the Program Director for the University of Kansas School of Medicine - Wichita Family Medicine Residency at Via Christi Hospitals. In this role he leads a team of 24 faculty and 54 Family Medicine residents.

Dr. Dooley received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI and proceeded to complete residency training at the Headquarters Air Armament Center Family Medicine Residency on Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida panhandle. He was elected as a Chief Resident for his third year of residency and then joined the faculty for four years. In addition to his Core Faculty role he supervised the Men's Health and Practice Management curricula, developed the Introduction to Clinic rotation, served as the Director of Clinical Operations for the residency clinic, deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and completed the Aerospace Medicine Primary course to earn his Flight Surgeon wings.

After separating from Active Duty, Dr. Dooley joined the KUSM-W FMR at Via Christi Hospitals as a Core Faculty member and served in the Air Force Reserve for 3 years as the Chief of Aerospace Medicine for the 931st Air Refueling Wing, McConnell Air Force Base. As a Core Faculty member he supervised the Practice Management and Rural Medicine rotations while taking on leadership roles within the Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN). After training as a Deputy Editor for Help Desk Answers he was invited to join the Editorial Board of FPIN's journal Evidence Based Practice. He subsequently served as the Co-Editor in Chief for Help Desk Answers.
