Dr. Lesly Dossett, MD, MPH, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery and Director of the Institute for Surgical Sciences and Innovation at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Dossett is a surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of melanoma and soft-tissue sarcoma. Her research leverages implementation science frameworks and behavioral strategies to improve healthcare value. She is a principal investigator on R01 grants funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Dr. Lesly Dossett, MD, MPH, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery and Director of the Institute for Surgical Sciences and Innovation at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr Dossett earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2003, having attended on a United States Navy Health Professions Scholarship. She completed her general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, including a health services research fellowship and an MPH. After residency, Dr. Dossett served on active duty in the United States Navy in several roles, both stateside and overseas, including two deployments supporting combat operations in Afghanistan. After leaving the Navy, Dr. Dossett completed a clinical fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center and joined the University of Michigan faculty. While at Michigan, Dr. Dossett served as Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Vice Chair for Faculty Development. She was named Chair of Surgery at KUMC in 2026.

Dr. Dossett specializes in treating patients with melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma. Her research leverages implementation science frameworks and behavioral strategies to improve healthcare value. She is a principal investigator on R01 grants funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). She serves as a mentor on several federally funded training grants and career development awards.
