Professional Background

Long Davalos, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he joined the faculty in 2024. He also serves as Associate Program Director of the Neurology Residency and Associate Program Director of the Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship. In recognition of his commitment to medical education, he received the Clinical Educator Excellence Award from the neurology residents in 2026 and the A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology in 2024. Previously, he served as an assistant professor of neurology at the University of Cincinnati, where he was named Neurology Faculty of the Year in 2022.

He earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru. After completing medical school, he completed his neurology residency at the University of Cincinnati. He finished his neuromuscular medicine fellowship at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Davalos is board certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine and electrodiagnostic medicine. He specializes in neuromuscular neurology and, in 2023, was ranked in the top 1% of clinicians for Press Ganey Patient Experience Scores.

Research

Overview

Dr. Davalos’ research interests include axonal and demyelinating acquired peripheral neuropathies. An active researcher, he has assisted with several clinical trials exploring treatments for myasthenia gravis, acute (AIDP) and chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathies (CIDP) and anti-Myelin Associated Glycoprotein Neuropathy. He has published articles related to vasculitic and amyloid neuropathy, distal symmetric polyneuropathy, AIDP, CIDP, myasthenia gravis and myositis. He has presented posters and abstracts at the AANEM, AAN and PNS annual meetings and co-authored three book chapters about the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic neuropathy, and inclusion body myositis.
