Kelsey E. Stevens, Ph.D

Professional Background

Dr. Kelsey E. Stevens, P.h.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor of Anatomy in the Department of Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She specializes in teaching human anatomy, embryology, physiology, and neuroscience to both medical and allied health profession students.
Originally from Yankton, South Dakota, Dr. Stevens completed her B.S. degree in Human Biology at Chadron State College. She earned her Master's degree in Biomedical Science from the University of South Dakota and Sanford School of Medicine, and later a P.h.D. in Health and Human Performance from Concordia University Chicago. She has primarily worked in the field of gross anatomy, but has completed research in the areas of disorders of sex development, human body donor ethics, and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs).
Dr. Stevens is committed to creating classroom and laboratory experiences that challenge, support, and engage adult learners. She uses a semi-flipped classroom model and hands-on laboratory approaches designed to foster collaborative learning, while also seeking to identify and address the needs unique to every student

Research

Overview

Additionally, Dr. Stevens is involved in the American Association for Anatomy (AAA) and the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS). A longtime member and previous chair of the HAPS Anatomical Donor Stewardship Committee, she regularly acts as a dissection coach, presents at the HAPS Annual Conferences, and has worked with her HAPS colleagues to publish a number of articles in Anatomical Sciences Education.
