Professional Background

Dr. John "Jack" Shuler is an Assistant Professor of Palliative Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center where he also completed medical school and fellowship. He spent the intervening years doing his Internal Medicine residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. After completing fellowship in 2020, he followed his now spouse around the country (Lexington, KY and Denver, CO) as she finished her medical training in Urology. During those three years, he did a mixture of inpatient and home-based palliative care, as well as home and inpatient hospice. He excitedly returned to KU in the summer of 2023 to join the palliative care team. In this role, he primarily sees patients in the hospital where he strives to help them navigate serious illness with a focus on improving quality of life.
