Dr. Jessica Newman is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center and serves as Infectious Diseases Thread lead for the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She is also Co-director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship, Core Faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and Associate Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program.
Dr. Newman received her medical degree from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then moved to Kansas City with her family where she completed her Internal Medicine Residency, Internal Medicine Chief Residency and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Clinical interests include general infectious diseases, HIV, preventative health in persons living with HIV and bone and bone and joint infections.

Research
Overview
Dr. Jessica Newman is a lead in medical education research for the Infectious Diseases Division and within the Department of Internal Medicine. She is also a champion of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in the Division of Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Newman mentors medical students, internal medicine residents, and fellows through research studies, manuscript composition, poster and oral conference presentations and other scholarly efforts locally, as well as nationally. Her research areas of interest include medical education and adult learning techniques, inpatient and outpatient quality improvement in the areas of HIV and preventive health.
Dr. Newman's primary professional interests include Medical Education at all levels as well as medical education research. She provides lectures/flipped classroom activities to medical students, Internal Medicine residents and fellows of several IM subspecialty programs and leads Resident/Student Education for the Division of Infectious Diseases. She is a small group (CBCL) leader in the KU School of Medicine as well as a Phase I Block Clinical Content Advisor. In addition to her Infectious Diseases Thread lead position she is Director of the KU SOM Main Campus Infectious Diseases Student Enrichment Experience and the Internal Medicine Student Chief elective. She is Chair of the KU School of Medicine Academy of Medical Educators. Dr. Newman also serves the Internal Medicine Residency Program as the Infectious Diseases Subspecialty Education Coordinator.
