jchia@kumc.eduProfessional Background
Dr. Chia is originally from Louisiana, having attended LSU (Louisiana State University) for both undergraduate and medical school. She completed post-graduate training in Internal Medicine, followed by a Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship and early junior faculty years, at Duke University Medical Center. In 2015 she relocated to Kansas, primarily to be closer to family. At TUKHS, she serves as an academic nocturnal intensivist in the adult medical ICUs, where she teaches the housestaff team (medical students, residents, and fellows) and cares for medically-complex, critically-ill patients, often with multiple-organ dysfunction/failure. Working with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists, she provides a comprehensive assessment and management plan for all patients admitted to the ICU. Other responsibilities include appropriate placement/triage within the ICU, accepting patient referrals and coordinating care for ICU patients referred by transfer center, providing critical care consultation to all areas of the hospital, and responding to and providing professional services for emergencies on all inpatients.
