Professional Background
Julia Sung, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She received her undergraduate degree in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University and her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine. She completed residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, during which time she engaged in research studying immune correlates of protection in HIV elite controllers. She completed her clinical fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Duke University followed by a research fellowship at the University of North Carolina, where she continued work on HIV immunotherapies at the UNC HIV Cure Center. She joined the faculty at UNC and continued her research on cure related immunotherapies as well as preventative measures for other viral infections. Since joining KU, she has continued her work in the ID clinic and consult services, with a special interest in persons living with HIV and individuals with immunocompromising conditions and medications.

Research
Overview
Dr. Sung's research background is in translational immunotherapies for an HIV cure. She continues to have an interest in collaborative HIV related research as well as the prevention and treatment of infectious complications of biologics.
