Life Insurance

Employees of the University of Kansas Medical Center receive basic life insurance coverage. Employees have the option to buy additional life insurance coverage for themselves, their spouse and their children.

Basic coverage

We provide and pay for life insurance coverage. The benefit is 1.5 times annual salary. To designate your beneficiary, you must complete and return the appropriate "designation of beneficiary form" to the Benefits Office located in 1044 Delp.

Optional life Insurance

You may buy additional life insurance coverage for yourself, your spouse and your children. If you want to consider this additional benefit, please see details about enrollment and other important deadlines and underwriting requirements. You would pay the full cost for this benefit.

Upon termination of employment or retirement

Within 31 days after ending employment an employee may convert or port their life insurance to an individual policy. An individual policy is not available at group rates.

While the cost of this insurance is competitive with that of other carriers, the primary advantage is that issuance of the policy does not require proof of good health of the former employee. The employee should contact their designated agent to receive information on converting group life insurance.
