Dr. Hindole Ghosh is a Research Assistant Professor in Dr. Prasad Dandawate's lab in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He received his Ph.D. from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, India in Mammalian Reproductive physiology and neuroendocrinology from Department of Zoology. He investigated the cross talk between ovarian and thyroid axis in relation to neuroendocrine influence. The relation between polycystic ovarian syndrome and thyroid dysfunction was the basis of his research. He served as Assistant Professor for a brief time period in Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya and Kalinga University, India. He continued his training with Dr. Dandawate at University of Kansas Medical Center where the focused of his work was on PDAC drug discovery and cancer biology, where he have developed comprehensive expertise in the experimental systems and molecular approaches. A central scientific contribution of his work was the discovery of HDC+/TUBB3+ histaminergic nerve fibers in PDAC tumors — absent from normal pancreas and increasing progressively from PanIN to invasive PDAC. he demonstrated that histamine binding to HRH1 activates a Histaminergic-Neurotrophin Loop that simultaneously drives CREB→NGF/BDNF-mediated neural sprouting and AKT→GSK3β→β-catenin→TCF7L2 transcriptional signaling.

Overview
The PDAC tumor microenvironment is rich in neurons, neurotrophins, and neurotransmitters, and perineural invasion (PNI) — present in 71– 100% of PDAC tumors independently predicts poor survival. While prior work identified beta-2-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) signaling as a stress-cancer mediator, ADRB2 antagonism is not clinically viable due to bronchoconstriction and cardiac side effects. We identified a novel histaminergic neural subtype in PDAC — HDC+/TUBB3+ histaminergic nerve fibers
absent from normal pancreas and demonstrated that stress-released histamine binds HRH1 on PDAC cells to simultaneously activate neurotrophic loop driving neural sprouting and perineurial invasion. Our lab also focusses on discovering efficacy of natural or synthetic compounds as anticancer drug which has potential to contribute to improve treatment for the cancer patients.
