Dr. Hope Ring is Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Medical Director of Urgent Care and Virtual Urgent Care at The University of Kansas Health System. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Brooklyn College, City University of New York, and received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident.
Throughout her career, Dr. Ring has held numerous academic and administrative leadership positions, including Medical Student Clerkship Director, Associate Residency Program Director, Residency Program Director, and Physician Director of a Level 1 Geriatric Emergency Department. Since joining the University of Kansas in 2021, she has led the expansion and standardization of urgent care services while overseeing the department's educational mission, including the residency, fellowships, faculty development, and medical student education.
Nationally, Dr. Ring is a recognized leader in emergency medicine education and physician assessment. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), where she has held multiple leadership roles in examination development, continuing certification, and physician assessment. She was a member of the ACGME Emergency Medicine Milestones 2.0 Work Group, helping develop the national competency framework used to assess Emergency Medicine residents, and has contributed to the development of ABEM's next-generation Certifying Examination. She previously chaired Envision Healthcare's National Healthcare Disparities Committee, leading initiatives to improve health equity across emergency departments nationwide.
Dr. Ring's academic interests include medical education, physician assessment, urgent care innovation, quality improvement, health equity, and emergency care for older adults. Her work focuses on advancing physician education, improving patient outcomes, and developing national standards for Emergency Medicine training and certification.
