Explore the types of items that are recycleable on campus:
When not wet or stained by food or oil, cardboard is recyclable. It is also biodegradable, but it's always a good idea to put it in the bin instead of littering.
Allowed Items

- Cereal/Snack Boxes (plastic liners removed)

Cardboard Collection Process
- Cardboard should be broken down before it is recycled in the cardboard bin at the green station.
- Oversized Cardboard boxes should be broken down and can be wedged within the green station for pickup by housekeeping at night.
- Carboard pickup should be scheduled for large quantities of cardboard boxes (more than 3 boxes) with a call to facilities services (x87928) or an email to recycling @kumc.edu. This is not a billable service.

Glass is one of the few materials that can be recycled infinitely without losing strength, purity or quality. It is a widely recycled material, but beware: broken glass can be painful for both you and the recycling process.
Allowed Items
Please empty and rinse out bottles and remove metal or plastic caps/lids

- Ceramics e.g. Dishware, Ovenware

Most plastic jugs and bottles are 100 percent recyclable. Plastic #1 and #2 are the most commonly used forms of plastic in bottled water containers - and the most commonly collected. Aluminum is a sustainable metal and can be recycled over and over again. A can is generally turned into a new can and back on store shelves within 60 days.

Paper makes up the largest percentage of the solid waste stream at 33 percent. It's also one of the most recovered materials, as recycling opportunities are often readily available.

Staples Toner and Ink Cartridge Recycling Program
This toner and Ink Cartridge Recycling is provided as part of the Staples Business Advantage Program. Staples recycles all brands including HP, Canon, etc.
Follow these steps to recycle your cartridge using the Staples Recycling Program:
- Place empty cartridges directly into a Staples recycling bin or place cartridges back in their original packaging before placing into the bins.
- Drop off your empty toner or ink cartridge at one of the on-campus drop off locations identified below.
- If you are at an off campus location contact your Staples representative to schedule a cartridge pick up.

HP Products
- All Original HP LaserJet cartridges are packaged with a postage-paid return label for your convenience. Printer Cartridges can be recycled using the orginal HP packaging and the postage paid return label. Pre-labeled boxes can be dropped off at any of the On-Campus Drop off locations or in a UPS drop box.
- Simply drop off cartridges at any HP Authorized Retail Collection Location across the U.S.
- Print out a free postage-paid shipping label online.
- Order recycling shipping supplies online for free, including a bulk box and pallet pick-up for large quantities.
