- KUMC Wins State Recycling Challenge Award ·
- Recycling Organization on campus was both student/staff and consisted of six bins
2004
- Problem Statement Issued to EVC
- Pilot program requested by Students to bring these benefits:
- Improve waste recycling
- Reduce cost of trash disposal
- Demonstrate good stewardship
- Increase sense of stewardship and community on campus
- Program approved
- April KUMC Student Recycling Organization was officially formed and support by Student Governing Council begins, Fonda Briles, Advisor
Spring 2005
- Lawrence campus donates bins. Bins placed in multiple locations across the campus.
- Bi-weekly collections by students begins for BFI pickup outside the student center
Summer 2005
- Second proposal submitted to EVC to include:
- Five students to be paid an hourly wage
- Purchase 13 new bins
- Purchase a cart to pick up recycling around campus
- EVC approves program, grants $3,500 to students for trial program
- Partnership with Deffenbaugh to initiate commingled recycling program
2006
- KUMC Student Recycling Organization wins Student Organization of the Year award
- KUMC donates 10 bins to Wichita campus for their recycling program
- KUMC Student Recycling Organization meets with KU Edwards campus administrators to provide information on how to start their program
2008
- Bin locations increased to 60
- Allowed collection of plastic, tin, and aluminum in the same bin
2009
- Fonda Briles win Advisor of the Year Award for recycling
2014
- KUMC Student Recycling Organization, Student Governing Council Facilities Committee and Facilities Management coordinate the hand-off of recycling collection and financial obligation to Facilities Management
- KUMC Student Recycling Organization officially dissolves
- Facilities Management takes over recycling program
- Cross-functional Recycling Committee established
2016
- Recycling Program Overhaul

- Paper Recycling Agreement with Batliner
- Beta Rollout - Spring 2016
