Assistant Professor, Surgery

Professional Background

Dr. Elizabeth Jeffers, MD FACS is a board-certified general surgeon. Prior to coming to Kansas, her general surgery practice focused on breast health and cancer care for many years. She helped build the first accredited multi-disciplinary breast center in Southwest Michigan while advocating for women to receive the best possible breast cancer care. In order to enhance her patient care and expertise, she pursued a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center, a comprehensive cancer center.
Dr. Jeffers provides compassionate and highly skilled care to patients. In her dedicated breast surgery practice, she offers a broad spectrum of breast surgery options to patients with benign or malignant breast disease. Dr. Jeffers works closely with her multidisciplinary team to formulate a specific treatment plan for individual patients. Since cosmesis is of great concern to both Dr. Jeffers and her patients, she draws upon her specialized training in minimally invasive lumpectomies with hidden scars and oncoplastic techniques for breast conservation therapy. For mastectomies, she is skilled in flat closure, skin-sparing, and nipple-sparing techniques. Breast cancer treatment decisions are complex, and Dr. Jeffers works closely with her patients and helps them navigate through these difficult and emotional decisions.
Dr. Jeffers earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. She then completed her residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, MI. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology.
When not in the operating room, Dr. Jeffers enjoys fun adventures with her husband and 2 sons that include exploring national parks, playing at the beach in SC, and watching the Chiefs, Jayhawks, and Wolverines win.
