Dr. Fretz is an attending physician in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita. She is deeply committed to resident education in the PICU and currently leads both the resident PICU rotation and curriculum, as well as the morbidity and mortality conference series.
Dr. Fretz is in the process of publishing her fellowship research project, “Assessing the Landscape of Debriefing Practices: A National Needs Assessment of Pediatric ICU Fellows' Experiences and Educational Gaps.” Building on this work, she aims to develop a nationally applicable, user-friendly debriefing curriculum to support effective, real-time learning in critical care settings.
Her academic interests center on resident education, debriefing practices, and trainee well-being. Her overarching career goal is to serve as a clinician-educator, helping to shape sustainable, fulfilling careers for future physicians through thoughtful curriculum development and mentorship.
