Associate Professor, Urologic Surgery

Professional Background

Donald Neff, MD, FACS, serves as an Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. A Wisconsin native, his journey into healthcare began as a firefighter/paramedic in Janesville, WI. This ignited a deep commitment to patient care, ultimately leading to medical school. He completed medical school and his urology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, earning multiple honors for academic excellence and teaching during residency.

Before joining KU, Dr. Neff practiced urology in Janesville and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. His clinical practice today centers on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), where he holds particular expertise in advanced techniques like prostate enucleation and Aquablation therapy. Recognized as a thought leader in BPH surgical management, he actively refines techniques, develops protocols, and advances physician training in these areas.
Dr. Neff also brings extensive surgical experience to the management of urologic trauma and kidney stones, always prioritizing a patient-centered approach. Teaching activities include urological resident education, and continuing education activities for practicing urologists.

For over ten years, Dr. Neff has demonstrated his commitment to global health through annual medical mission trips to Honduras, providing surgical care and training in underserved communities.

Embracing innovation, Dr. Neff is leaning into the AI revolution, working to integrate artificial intelligence into urologic care. He is developing physician-led tools using large language models aimed at enhancing patient education, optimizing clinical workflows, and supporting personalized, data-driven treatment decisions.

Dr. Neff is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American Urological Association.
