Dr. Cayla Teal received her BS in Chemistry from William Jewell College. She received her MA and PhD in Community/Clinical Psychology, with emphases in applied research methods and psychometrics, from Wichita State University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Health Services Research at the Center of Innovation in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety at the Michael E. DeBakey Houston VA Medical Center and then served the Center as a investigator for several years. At KU SOM, she is an Education Professor of Population Health. She is also the Associate Dean for Assessment, Evaluation and Scholarship in the Office of Medical Education, having previously served in similar roles at Texas A&M College of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Teal is responsible for the assessment of student performance in and program evaluation of the School of Medicine's curriculum, and fostering medical education scholarship among faculty. She is a mixed methods medical education researcher, a former Associate Editor for Medical Education Online and a current Deputy Editor for Teaching and Learning in Medicine. Dr. Teal currently serves as the national treasurer for the Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education, and is a former national chair for the Medical Education Scholarship, Research and Evaluation section at the American Association of Colleges in Medicine.
