Professional Background

I am a board-certified general surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. I serve as Assistant Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program and am a partner with Kansas Surgical Consultants, LLP in Wichita, Kansas. I maintain a broad-based surgical practice encompassing elective general surgery, acute care surgery, and trauma surgery, with particular clinical and educational interests in chest wall injury management, surgical stabilization of rib fractures, robotic surgery, and surgical education.
I earned dual undergraduate degrees in Biotechnology and Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha before completing my Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. I then completed my General Surgery residency training at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, where I served as Administrative Chief Resident in my final year of training.
I am an active educator and mentor and am deeply involved in the training of medical students and surgical residents through bedside teaching, operative instruction, simulation training, and formal didactics. My commitment to surgical education has been recognized with multiple teaching awards, including the KU Wichita General Surgery Residency Faculty Teaching Award multiple times and the Outstanding Attending in Surgery Award from medical students.
In addition to my academic responsibilities, I hold several leadership positions at Wesley Medical Center, including Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery and Chair of both the Robotics Steering Committee and GI Bleed Team. He has helped develop multidisciplinary clinical initiatives and simulation-based educational programs focused on improving patient care and advancing resident surgical training.
I have contributed scholarly work in surgical education, professionalism, trauma care, and social media behavior in medicine, with publications appearing in the Journal of Surgical Education and other peer-reviewed journals.
