Christine Boutwell

Professional Background

Christine Boutwell, M.D., is a clinical associate professor on the clinical track in the Department of Neurology. She completed her medical degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, where she also completed an internal medicine residency. Upon completion of her residency at UMKC, Dr. Boutwell completed a neurology residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Prior to joining the Department of Neurology in June 2026, Dr. Boutwell served as a clinical associate professor in UMKC’s Department of Neurology, Chief of Neurology at Saint Luke’s Physician Group and co-director of Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute.
Dr. Boutwell’s clinical interests include vascular neurology and internal medicine.

Research

Overview

Dr. Boutwell’s research interests include vascular neurology, stroke and internal medicine. She has presented on the interventional management of carotid occlusions in the setting acute stroke and a validation study on a dysphagia screening tool. Additionally, she has served as either sub investigator or principal investigator on range of clinical trials and studies, including those related to sleep for stroke recovery and management, and long-term follow-up studies on patients with multiple sclerosis.
