Professional Background
Dr. Benjamin Martin, MD, FACS, FASCRS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Oncologic Surgery Division for Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Martin was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri on a baseball scholarship while pursuing his undergraduate degree. His medical degree was obtained at the University of Missouri before moving to Atlanta, GA, for his General Surgery training at Emory University. During that time, he completed a two-year research fellowship with an emphasis on tumor and transplant immunology. He then went on to obtain additional fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Emory Endosurgery Unit and Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Martin joined our faculty in 2017. His clinical and research interests include the multidisciplinary treatment of complex colon and anorectal pathology via minimally invasive techniques (endoscopic, laparoscopic, robotic) including colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and pelvic floor disorders.
