Abha A. Shah, M.D.

Professional Background

Dr. Abha Shah is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is the Anesthesiology Department Liaison for both Gynecological Surgery and Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Shah received her medical degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. After completing an internal medicine internship at Banner Medical Center in Arizona she completed anesthesiology residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. She worked as an assistant professor at the University of Miami Health System in 2009-2010.
Dr. Shah is involved in medical student and resident education. As a member of the Residency Core Competency Committee she has been a faculty mentor for many residents. She also serves on the OR Operations Committee for the hospital and is involved in daily operating room management. She is currently the medical director for a Care Advancement Project Streamlining Care Pathways in GYN Surgery.
Dr. Shah served nationally on the Education Committee for the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology from 2014-2020. She served as president of the Kansas City Society of Anesthesiologists in 2016-2017. She is a member of ASA, KSA and AMA.
Dr. Shah’s areas of interest include gynecologic surgery, transplant surgery and plastic surgery.
