Research
Overview
Dr. Katz has broad research interests that center around understanding the patient, health system, and policy level factors impacting the use and effects of care, including those that underlie disparities. The overarching objectives of his research are to improve access to and use of high-quality health care and to maximize humanistic and clinical outcomes for patients.
Dr. Katz has expertise in the design and execution of observational research, hands-on facilitation of data linkage from disparate data sources (e.g., cancer registry, patient-reported surveys, administrative claims, electronic health records, and clinical research datasets), and analysis of linked datasets to evaluate the utilization, comparative effects, and resultant costs of care. Some of his more recent work culminated in several high-impact publications: PMID 33453308 and PMID 41698468 in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology - Biology - Physics (the top journal in radiation oncology) and PMID 34792526 and PMID 33914015 in JAMA Oncology.
