Eligibility
All University of Kansas Medical Center graduate students who are pursuing Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees, entering their second through fourth year of study, and conducting research related to obesity, metabolism, and associated pathologies are encouraged to apply. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Application Instructions
Applications from qualified graduate students are accepted as openings become available. Applicants with proposed research most closely aligning with obesity and metabolism will be prioritized.
To apply, please email the following materials in a single PDF to tomadst32@kumc.edu by the application due date. Name your file “Lastname_Firstname_TOMADS.pdf”
- Cover letter including the following information (please list as bullet points):
- Full name
- S. citizen or permanent resident status
- PI of training lab
- Title of research project
- Month/year started at KU Medical Center and name of entry program
- Current Ph.D. program and estimated completion date for degree
- Comprehensive Exam status (pre or post comps- if post, date of completion)
- Current and previous fellowship support as a Ph.D. student
- Student NIH-style biosketch—e.g., as provided for F31 NRSA application: NIH Biosketch Format Pages, Instructions, and Samples
- One-page description of research project and aims (Arial, 11pt font, 0.5” margins)
- 250-word statement on relevance of research project to the theme of the TOMADS T32 (see TOMADS purpose statement) and name of proposed basic science or clinical co-mentor
- 250-word personal statement, including career goals
- Include the following from your current faculty mentor:
- Mentor’s biosketch

- Up to ½ page describing mentor’s overall student training experience OR mentor’s vision for training students if their mentoring experience is limited
- Up to ½ page of mentor’s evaluation of trainee
- 1 page total for these two segments (Arial, 11pt font, 0.5” margins)
