Our department's summer 2027 internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable medical experience and research knowledge. This program is ideal for students who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to take initiative in a fast-paced academic medical environment.
Interns will work closely with radiation oncology faculty physicians and research staff to perform clinical data abstraction for various cancer disease types. This role involves significant independent work with large datasets, requiring accuracy, persistence, and intellectual curiosity. Interns will be encouraged to take ownership of their projects, troubleshoot problems, and think critically about the data they collect.
Internship description and benefits

- 8-week, full-time internship
- June 7, 2027 to July 30, 2027
- On-campus experience
- Accommodations are available for medical students’ schedules
- Enter and manage clinical data in REDCap research databases
- Gain hands-on experience with large-scale data abstraction and quality assurance
- Educational experience in radiation oncology with different cancer disease sites
- Exposure to Epic O2 electronic medical record (EMR) and real-world research workflows
- Participate in radiation oncology resident lectures and clinical shadowing opportunities
- Required in-person orientation June 3, 2027 and in-person presentation on July 22, 2027
- Stipends for summer interns are adjusted annually and are based on education level ranging from $2,000 - $3,000
- 8-week, full-time internship
A physician mentor will be assigned to each intern to provide personalized mentor-mentee guidance,
regular feedback, and clinical shadowing experiences throughout the program.
Internship requirements
- This program is open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students with a strong interest in clinical research, data analysis, and healthcare
- Must be able to work full-time (40+ hours per week) and manage independent tasks effectively
- Personal laptop required
