Graduate Certificate Program in Clinical Research
The Graduate Certificate Program in Clinical Research (GCP-CR) offers students specialized instruction in clinical and translational research, including clinical trial methods, epidemiology and research ethics. This certificate is designed to include coursework required by NIH training grants and to support the development of skills and knowledge essential for conducting clinical research. Students may tailor the program to align with their research interests and accommodate their work schedules.
The certificate program consists of 16 total credit hours: 7 required credit hours, 6 credit hours of courses selected from writing and statistics options, and 3 credit hours of electives. Most classes are offered online; however, one required course (1 credit hour) is offered in person, and one writing course option (3 credit hours) is also offered in person. Certificate credit hours may be applied toward the Master of Science in Clinical Research degree.
Admission Requirements
The University of Kansas Graduate Certificate Program in Clinical Research accepts applications three times per year through our Slate application system. Admission into the certificate program requires a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Successful completion of a calculus course is also required.
Application Requirements
- You must submit one official copy of each transcript from every post-secondary college and university you have attended.
- Personal statement: Applicants must upload a 1-2 page essay outlining the applicant’s reasons for wanting to pursue graduate education in clinical research.
- Cover letter or resume: Applicants must upload a resume indicating education, work background, honors, memberships, and any other personal information relevant to applying to a graduate certificate program.
- Successful completion of one semester of calculus on your transcript(s).
Students submitting international applications have additional requirements as follows:
- Applicants whose native language is not English or who graduated from a foreign institution are required to submit official TOEFL scores less than two years old. Use institution code 6895 to have an official copy of your scores mailed to KUMC. The complete minimum English proficiency requirements for KUMC students can be found on the International Programs Applicants who do not meet the minimal score will not be considered for admission into the program.
- All international students are now required to submit an evaluation of their academic credentials from World Education Service(WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). The report must include a course-by-course evaluation, US grade equivalency for each course and the cumulative US GPA, and the US equivalency earned (bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate, etc).
- Please be advised that international students are not eligible for federal student loans or scholarships. International students must be financially prepared to handle the full cost of living here and attending school.
The GCP-CR program currently does not meet the requirements for F1 Visa sponsorship due to its hybrid format. Prospective students should consider visa eligibility requirements before completing an application.
