Two medical students receive the 2026 Akakpo-Ulloa Neuroscience Scholarship
The annual scholarship, established by Carol Ulloa, M.D. in 2024, funds a month-long neuroscience rotation for medical students.
The Department of Neurology awarded the 2026 Akakpo-Ulloa Neuroscience Scholarship to two medical students, who will each complete a neuroscience elective rotation at the University of Kansas Medical Center later this year:
- Joshua Kennell, a first-year medical student at KU School of Medicine-Wichita, will rotate June 15-July 10.
- Mayar Al-Shaikhli, a first-year medical student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, will rotate November 12-December 7.
Carol Ulloa, M.D., who established the scholarship in honor of her late father, Eduardo R. Ulloa, M.D., will mentor Kennell and Al-Shaikhli during their rotations, a hands-on experience in neurology, psychiatry and other neuroscience specialties.
“I’m excited to see how the different specialties and team members work together to provide care on complex issues,” Kennell said of his upcoming rotation.
