Women in Medicine and Science, an organization for faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center, has named Jill Morris, Ph.D., the recipient of its 2026 Soaring Star Award.

The Soaring Star Award is presented annually to one scientist and one clinician who has achieved significant career accomplishments and demonstrates a commitment to leadership and collaboration. Morris, an associate professor in the Department of Neurology, receives the 2026 recognition as a scientist.

Morris joined the Department of Neurology faculty in 2018, after completing a post-doctoral fellowship with the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. She currently serves as co-director of the Center’s Biomarker Core and director of the Center’s Developmental Projects Program. Her research focuses on the differences in both systemic and brain energy metabolism in health cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease.

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized by WIMS as a 2026 Soaring Star,” Morris said. “I’m thankful for the support of colleagues, mentors and trainees who have shaped my career, and appreciate being part of a community that values the advancement of women in medicine and science. I hope to continue creating opportunities for others to succeed as my own career progresses.”

Morris will be formally honored at the Women in Medicine and Science’s 2026 Annual Event on Tuesday, August 18.

Founded in 1999, Women in Medicine and Science hosts career development programs, educational seminars, presentations and social networking events, all the aim of providing faculty and trainees at KU School of Medicine with the tools and opportunities to succeed in academic medicine.
