Lily Goldberg

Professional Background

I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and Fort Worth, Texas, and received my B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis in 2023, majoring in Computational Biology & Genomics with minors in Computer Science and Anthropology. During my sophomore year, I was a Living Earth Collaborative intern in Dr. Mónica Carlsen’s lab, where I studied the phylogenetic history of the tropical plant collection at the Missouri Botanical Garden. For my senior honors thesis, I worked in Dr. Rachel Penczykowski’s plant pathology and ecology lab at WashU, using Plantago species and their powdery mildew pathogens to investigate the dynamics of pathogen coinfection.

After graduation, I joined the National Institutes of Health as a postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award fellow in Dr. Neil Hanchard’s lab, where I studied genetic risk factors for alloimmune responses in individuals with sickle cell disease.

At KUMC, I am excited to continue studying the genetics and genomics of human disease, with the goal of developing precision interventions and improving human health. Outside of academics, I enjoy making art, spending time outdoors, eating ice cream, and seeing as much live music as I can.
