Anamika Ratri

Professional Background

I was born in Bangladesh, lived there, in Japan, and in Canada before moving to the KC Metro area. I spent the bulk of my formative years here before attending Vanderbilt University, where I studied public health and neuroscience. After graduation, I moved back to Kansas to study ovarian biology in Dr. Lane Christenson’s lab, focusing on transgender health and aging, while volunteering as a sexual health counselor at the KC CARE Health Center. Working directly with patients experiencing the very disorders we studied in the lab inspired me to pursue a combined physician-scientist path.

After the first two years of medical school, I joined the clinical research lab of Dr. Andrea Chadwick, M.D., MSc, where I have had the unique opportunity to study the impact of sex hormones on pain in gender-minority populations while integrating advocacy into my biomedical research interests. My interests also include public/global health, international relations, and languages. Beyond academics, I enjoy tending to my plants and pets, experimenting in the kitchen, traveling, and learning people's stories.
