Matthew Hermanson, M.Ed.
Learning Specialist
mhermanson@kumc.eduProfessional Background
Matthew received a BS in Biology from Truman State University followed by a Master's in Education. He has always had an interest in and enjoyment of science/medicine. Before he became a Learning Specialist at KU Medical Center, he taught Biology and Anatomy/Physiology courses. He found teaching students who aspired to become doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc., exciting and fulfilling work.
He decided to become a Learning Specialist because he wanted to continue working within the education field but at a more advanced content level. Matthew loves helping students who are passionate about learning medicine and enjoys aiding them in finding ways to be more successful as they work towards realizing their dream of a career in medicine. Each person, at some point in their academic life, will reach their personal limitations or hit that nut that they just can't crack. Matthew is excited to spend his time helping amazing and intelligent students find new ways to reach their personal success goals.
When he is not at KU Medical Center, he enjoys time with his wife, a nurse, and his two boys. When he is able to find the time, he likes to run, bike, hike, camp, and pretty much anything else outdoors. He enjoys "tangible hobbies" like cooking, gardening, and building things.
