Professional Background

Kate earned her MSW from the University of Michigan School of Social Work and has been working as a clinical social worker for over 15 years. She has worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, nonprofit management, private practice, and higher education, working clinically with students at Emory University for seven years prior to joining KUMC. Kate is personally and professionally committed to the core social work values of service, integrity, social justice, competence, dignity and worth of the person, and the importance of human relationships. Kate is a LGBTQIA+ affirming healthcare provider and committed to anti-racist, anti-oppressive and decolonizing practices. Kate is licensed as a clinical social worker in Kansas, Missouri, Georgia, and Michigan.

Broadly, her clinical approach is compassionate, open, and grounded in curiosity about the whole of a person. She attends thoughtfully to intersecting identities and is guided by a commitment to meaning-making, helping clients align their authentic values with their lived experiences, present work and circumstances, and aspirations for the future. Kate’s clinical practice is rooted in an integrative framework that includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and systems theories. Kate values creating an inclusive and safe space for all and collaborating to meet your goals.

In her free time, Kate enjoys being active, spending time with her husband and daughter, and exploring new places and spaces throughout the Kansas City metro. Kate is also a trained singer and enjoys performing in local community theater when the right show comes along! Kate loves true crime podcasts and guilty pleasure reality tv shows with the family cat, Lola, snuggling on her lap.
